Let’s Play Basketball Project-Girls Trials, an event organized by Oxford Elite Basketball Academy which has its main aim to promote the sport of basketball amongst girls from Oxfordshire area. This project is primarily aimed at the local community to promote the sport and to increase the opportunities for girls aged 8 - 9 years old (born after 1st September 2014) to get involved in basketball.

We would like to extend this invitation to all parents, and we intend that, through our combined effort, to offer a sound education using the sport of basketball to all the children (girls in particular) who wish to get involved and discover the benefits of this sport.

Here at Oxford Elite Basketball Academy, we strongly believe that the future of sport and its further development lies in the inclusive approach and opportunities for both genders – and we are taking some actions to ensure a move in the right direction. Gender parity has been a problem since the dawn of society and numerous examples in history show that girls/women encountered inequalities in their careers, education, at home, and so on, and sport is not an exception. In this context, sport is one of the most powerful platforms for promoting gender equality and to empower girls and women.

Another reason why we launch this basketball campaign is the lack of girls’ basketball in Oxfordshire area. According to figures provided by Basketball England, there are 5389 members who are Under 16’s and amongst them 1695 females and 1507 from a low socio-economic group. For this reason alone, our club intends to promote and create girls teams that will represent Oxford (and Oxfordshire) at regional and national level in the years to come.

The inaugural event will take place on 17th of May 2023 at 

Oxford Brookes University Centre for Sport,

between 13:00 and 17:00 (each participating school will have allocated and will spend one hour on the court according to the future schedule).

           All participants will receive a brand-new basketball ball.
